Getting Started Checklist · 28th September 2006
Once your site is set up and postings are coming in, it's time to grab the editorial reins. Tideline is designed from the ground up to minimize the time and effort you need to spend each day to keep things running smoothly. Here's the usual routine:
1) CHECK THE EDITOR'S ALERT
See at a glance if there are any new messages or pending items awaiting your review. Each time you go to a new page or refresh a page, Tideline checks for any new messages or postings and alerts editors with bright orange text in the upper right corner of the masthead. No need to constantly go looking for new stuff...just keep an eye on the alert. Also you can have this alert turned on even when not signed in, saving the need to sign in just to see whether you needed to.
2) READ NEW MESSAGES
Tideline has a built in messaging system that any reader or member can use to contact you directly. To read messages, click any Editor Alert or use the MESSAGES tool on the Editor's Toolbar. Your "My Messages" inbox shows all your messages.
3) REVIEW NEW POSTINGS
When posted items need your review, flip to the "Editor's Review Board" by clicking the orange Editor Alert or using the REVIEW tool in the Editor's Toolbar. Once there you can quickly review each new posting and decide what to do with it. When you have reviewed them all, a single click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of that page does all the shuffling and sorting and relayout immediately.
4) GET A SNAPSHOT OF THE SITE
Quickly check on the activity on your site. The Editor's Desk with Stats page is designed just for that purpose. You'll find summaries of postings; reports on the daily auto-housekeeping; customized stats; database usage; the latest on your email subscription services and more. An excellent home page for your daily editorial duties.
